Why $550 Price Limit?
|
If we had no price limit, and just listed the best shooting 9mm pistols, the list would start to look like this.
1. Witness Gold Team....$1,700
2. CZ 75 Champion....$1,500
3. Sig 226 X-Five....$1,900
4. Kimber Tactical Pro II....$1,150
5. Witness Limited....$990
Even though these pistols are a shooters dream, they are not the most practical for carry or personal protection. The prices are out of reach for most of us.

Here is another reason for the $550 limit: It does not cost that much to make a pistol. There is only about $20 worth of materials in a two pound pistol. After labor for machining, assembly, handling, sales, warehousing, and marketing, the cost should be $40 to make a pistol. After you add product liability insurance, import taxes, distributor mark-up, and dealer profits, a pistol should retail for $160. Somebody in the supply chain is making a lot of money. Think about this; it should cost more money to make an 18v cordless Black & Becker 3/8" drill than a modern pistol. The drill sells at Sears for $99.95!
